The Origami task lamp is inspired by two great styles - Czech cubist design and Japanese origami. Both these styles are based on exploding the objects to polygons, minimizing the number of such surfaces and creating objects with their own spirit - stable, but dynamic; minimalistic, but eye-catching; symetric, but not boring. The idea of origami amazed me mainly for its foldability and variability. I thought that it would be great to design a task lamp, which is made from ecologic materials and which can be adjusted to many positions as its user likes. Anyway, there is a long way before me to think through all the details, so at first, I focused on a metal variant of the Origami lamp and I'd love to present its evolution to you.
The paper version is just in a concept phase, but it is original and promising idea. The lamp would be made from one piece of material based on paper (you can see the drawing in the picture above) and would be foldable. It would save space during its transport and also in stores - the user would fold the lamp at home.
It would use LED light, so it would be eco-friendly, durable and renewable, because of the paper material.
The paper lamp is very stable and the shade can be adjusted in many positions and in more directions than the metal version. The shade would be supported by a steel wires, so it could stay in a wanted position.
